If you’re not reading @brightwalldarkroom, you should be. ⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ The film is as messy, flawed, and in need of forgiveness as its human characters. It asks us to perform the act that the film holds as one of the ultimate human actions. But forgiveness, like the sky’s frog-giveness, doesn’t solve everything. The past still haunts. Forgiving is not forgetting. We still have to “play it as it lays.”⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #film #films #movie #movies #cinema #hollywood #entertainment #celebrity #celebrities #cinephile #filmnews #drama #action #horror #filmcritic #oldhollywood #newhollywood #indies #indiefilms #studio #boxoffice #pop #popstar #entertainment #filmhistory #paulthomasanderson #forgive #forgiveness
Nineteen films (four directing by women: “best showing since 2011”) are in contention for the Palme d’Or at this year’s #Cannes #Film #Festival, which runs from May 14 to May 25. The history of a filmmaker at this festival can offer wisdom as to who could be out front to win the coveted Palme d’Or. Seven of the entries are by filmmakers that have been honored during past closing ceremonies. Newcomers to Cannes could end up being big winners with three filmmakers making their first appearance on the Croisette and another four having their films shown for the first time in competition. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣[SOURCE: Gold Derby] ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #film #films #movie #movies #cinema #hollywood #entertainment #celebrity #celebrities #cinephile #filmnews #drama #action #horror #filmcritic #oldhollywood #newhollywood #indies #indiefilms #studio #boxoffice #pop #popstar #entertainment #filmhistory #cannesfilmfestival
Steven Spielberg has broken his silence on his reported plan to ask the Academy's board of governors to vote for a new rule that would combat simultaneous awards-contender releases on streaming platforms and in movie theaters, saying in a statement that he wants everyone to have access to great movies but also that he wants to see movie theaters survive.⁣⁣ [SOURCE: @hollywoodreporter] ⁣ If movie theaters want to survive, they need to stop charging patrons the monthly cost of a Netflix subscription & redeem the monthly membership idea @moviepass tried (until the math caught up). That said, people should dumb @Netflix and get on the Criterion Channel! ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #film #films #movie #movies #cinema #hollywood #entertainment #celebrity #celebrities #cinephile #filmnews #drama #action #horror #filmcritic #oldhollywood #newhollywood #indies #indiefilms #studio #boxoffice #pop #popstar #entertainment #filmhistory #criterionchannel
Three intriguing releases not to miss this year from the freshman horror phenoms Ari Aster (“Hereditary”), David Robert Mitchell (“It Follows”), & Robert Eggers (“The Witch”).⁣⁣ Although, the middle child isn’t having much luck with critics, standing at 53% thus far (via @rottentomatoes).
